Career and Technical Education (CTE) of St. Johns County

TCHS UF Health St. Johns Academy of Future Healthcare Professionals

The electives in the UF Health St. Johns Academy of Future Healthcare Professionals (code: TCHSEKG and TCHSEMR) offer students a unique opportunity combining classroom learning with real world experience. Students take a basic core curriculum at TCHS and as upperclassmen participate in a shadow rotation at UF Health/Flagler Hospital. Students mastering curriculum have the opportunity to earn an industry certification as an EKG Technician or as an Emergency Medical Responder. Core curriculum options in this academy include college courses through St. Johns River State College and honors courses. Students are encouraged to join the curriculum based club, HOSA, to compliment their academy experience.

Mission

The UF Health St. Johns Academy of Future Healthcare Professionals is committed to exposing students to a rigorous curriculum in the healthcare fields to prepare them for college and careers and provide hands-on, real-world experiences with business and community partners. Students on the EKG track will learn how to administer and interpret the results of electrocardiograms, while students on the EMR track will learn how to provide immediate, life-saving care at the scene of an emergency, performing basic interventions like CPR and bleeding control before higher-level EMS members arrive. Each track has their own industry certification exams.
