James Weldon Park, in downtown Jacksonville, has become a winter wonderland for the holiday season, with a large tree in the plaza and a number of Deck the Chairs “Unite with Lights” student contest entries throughout the park. Middle and High Schools were asked to come up with a creative way to decorate a plain wooden lifeguard chair. The displays are meant to help bring awareness to the need for arts and technology education in our community’s schools. Students in Nease’s Engineering Design and Development classes came up with the Star Wars-inspired design, utilizing their engineering classroom equipment and their ingenuity to create the components of the décor. The chairs will be on display in James Weldon Park until January 1st.
