The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM NERR) has always been a committed supporter of St. Johns County Schools. St. Johns Tech and Creekside High School have been recipients of the GTM NERR’s generous support of the Academy programs throughout the years. When Hurricane Irma hit, both schools jumped into action and offered their student manpower to help the GTM NERR’s post-storm cleanup efforts.
Students from both schools cleaned up the beaches within the Research Reserve’s boundaries. In little over an hour, the students collected 1,576 pieces and 259.5 pounds of debris. The students also engaged in data collection and recording. The students had a great time outdoors and served a worthy cause for a dedicated partner.
