Students in both strands of the Academy of Engineering and Environmental Sciences visited the Northwest Wastewater Treatment Facility in St. Johns County. The visit was hosted by long-time business partner, Tony Cubbedge of St. Johns County Utilities and showcased the processes of cleaning water resources and become informed citizens. This facility is one focused on reclamation water, and has some of the newest technologies available for students to see firsthand. Students learned mechanical, chemical, and environmental engineering processes in proper water treatment for the water they use each day. Additionally, students had opportunities to talk to facility operators about job specifications and skills necessary to keep water resources clean and usable for all citizens in St. Johns County.
