PMHS Building Construction Students Rebuild Greenhouse for Gamble Rogers Middle School Agriscience Program

On Thursday, November 29, 2018, students from the Pedro Menendez Building Construction program in the Academy of Architecture and Building Science, under the supervision of Mike Rosenberg, Instructor, completed the construction of a new greenhouse for students in the Gamble Rogers Middle School Agriscience Program.  Last year, Hurricane Matthew destroyed the original greenhouse at the school.

This past spring, Gamble Rogers Agriscience Instructor Kevin Gamble contacted Mr. Rosenberg to request that the Building Construction students build a new, more durable greenhouse.  With a generous donation of building materials from Winston Radford of Radcraft Construction, the greenhouse project was underway.  Additional donations were received from the Gamble Rogers PTO, The Garden Club of St. Augustine, St. Johns County IFAS Extension, Home Depot,  and a Florida Agriculture in the Classroom Grant.

The Building Construction students built the greenhouse at Pedro Menendez High School as part of Mr. Rosenberg’s Building Construction class.  Next, the greenhouse was moved to Gamble Rogers Middle School in two stages and the final adjustments and installation were completed.  Many of the students involved in the construction of the greenhouse were alumni of both Gamble Rogers and Mr. Gamble’s Agriscience program.  Now that the Building Construction students have designed a template, they are planning to build more greenhouses for other St. Johns County Schools.
