Stellar Academy of Engineering introductory-level students had the opportunity to see the power of engineering an unlikely place — a candy store. Nease students toured Whetstones Chocolate Factory — an institution in the Nation’s Oldest City — and learned the company’s founder, Henry Whetstone, was an engineer. During his time in the chocolate business, Whetstone patented equipment and techniques associated with his confectionary creations. The students, who have learned about mechanical engineering and “process” in class, had the opportunity to see a small factory setting, which really reinforced that curriculum. The students also had the chance to sample several chocolates, which made this field trip even sweeter.
