This year, students in the Flagler Health + Academy of Future Healthcare Professionals are proving that healthcare is all about heart. And for the EKG students, they take that part pretty literally! In the EKG course students have been busy reviewing heart anatomy, practicing with technical skills like taking blood pressure, and getting ready for their first live EKGs. Many students will share that dissecting pig hearts has been the highlight this quarter.
Students in HOSA are approaching heart a bit differently. They’re putting together service projects to help the homeless in our community. HOSA and the sub-committe One Blood Club held a blood drive last month and ended up with 79 donations which will save 237 lives here in our local community. Speaking of saving lives, one of our very own healthcare academy students, Claudia Mueckay (center student in featured photo) put her Basic Life Saver certification to use by performing CPR on a community member while on a routine shopping trip at Publix. She was able to use the skills she learned in class to help save a life!
