Business Partners Share Information on Information Technology Careers with 7th Grade Girls

St. Johns County Middle Schools are very grateful to the business partners from Citi, Black Knight Financial Services and Johnson and Johnson Vision for providing Women in I.T. (Information Technology) workshops for almost all 7th grade girls in the school district about careers in Information Technology (I.T.).  This came about as a vision of Citi five years ago after learning that only 18% of technology-related degrees are earned by women nationwide.

On October 16, 2018, technology professionals Brenda Orticke from Citi, and Rebecca Flagg and Aruna Subramaniac, from Black Knight spoke to the 7th grade girls at St. Johns Technical Middle School.  As a result of the workshop, several girls expressed interest in considering careers in this field.  They will be encouraged to apply for Career Academies related to IT in 8th grade for enrollment in high school.

These career academies include:

  • Bartram Trail High – Information Technology Academy
  • Ponte Vedra High – Academy of Information Technology
  • Creekside High – Academy of Emerging Technology – Cybersecurity or Digital Multimedia strands
  • Allen D. Nease High – Communications Academy – Digital Design or Digital Video Technology strands
  • Pedro Menendez High – VyStar Academy of Business & Finance – Digital Design strand
